26 teams participate in Meiktila traditional boat race of pagoda festival

A total of 26 teams are competing in the traditional boat race flagged off on 23 September as part of the 140th PhaungdawU Pagoda Buddha Pujaniya Festival, said U Tin Hlaing, a member of the pagoda board of trustees.
“The traditional boat race is being held in the Meiktila historic Karaweik PhaungdawU Pagoda Festival. A total of 26 teams – six teams in the senior boat race and 20 teams in the junior boat race – are participating in the competition. The boat race is starting from at 9 am on 23 September,” he added.
The 140th festival of the historic Karaweik PhaungdawU Pagoda in Meiktila township, Mandalay Region, will last from 23 September to 1 October in a thronged manner with offering alms-bowl and offerings to the Sangha, traditional boat race, fun events and market stalls. — ASH/ MKKS
