Tour guides said that the destination of Goyangyi island in Pathein district, Ayeyawady region, attracted many visitors during December.
Due to transport difficulties, not many travellers used to come to this destination, but many interested local visitors from Yangon region and others came to the island during the December holidays, said tour guide Ko Kwaykar.
“People came from various areas. My clients were from Kachin, Mogok, Shan, Muse and Lashio,” he said.
Although not as many as before, the return of tourists to the island is a good thing, he said.
“Travellers are not as many as in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, but it regained people’s interest. There were just a few visitors in 2021 and 2022 due to various circumstances. Transport difficulties were one of them. Now, the roads have improved a little and some people came by their private cars. As there are three-day consecutive holidays in February, people might come,” he said.
