$1bln earned in Sino-Myanmar bilateral trade in first month of FY 2019-2020

The value of Myanmar’s trade with China in October of the current financial year, 2019-2020, totalled over US$1 billion, including $456.86 million for exports and $549.89 million for imports, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce.
Meanwhile, Myanmar’s regional trade with ASEAN countries showed the highest growth of nearly $1 billion.
Myanmar primarily exports agricultural products to China through the border gates. However, trade in agricultural products was halted on account of China clamping down on illegal trade through border gates.
The value of bilateral trade with China was $11.36 billion in FY 2018-2019, $6 billion in the past mini-budget period, $11.78 billion in FY 2017-2018 and $10.8 billion in FY 2016-2017.
Rice, various types of peas, sesame seeds, corn, fruits and vegetables, dried tea leaves, fishery products, rubber, minerals and animal products are exported to China, whereas machinery, plastic raw materials, consumer products and electronic tools are exported to Myanmar. —GNLM
