153 Myanmar workers sent to S Korea via EPS system

According to a statement from the Myanmar Embassy to South Korea, 153 Myanmar workers were sent to South Korea on 4 July through the government’s Overseas Employment Agency via the EPS system. The Myanmar workers sent to South Korea are 92 regular manufacturing workers and 61 regular agricultural and livestock workers.
A total of 919 Myanmar workers were sent in four batches through the EPS system in July. The despatch of workers to South Korea was restarted in August 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the labour needs in that country, Myanmar workers are increasingly being recruited, and the contracts with former workers are also being extended.
A labour embassy official from Seoul welcomed 153 workers, instructed the workers to follow the rules and provided the necessary support. Currently, there are nearly 50,000 Myanmar workers in South Korea, and hundreds of workers continue to leave every month, according to records from the Ministry of Labour. — TWA/KZL
